Bridget St John - Catch a falling star

My first regular exposure to live music was through Folk Clubs altho I never came across anyone wearing an arran sweater, put a finger in an ear or swill ale from a tankard.
Instead I came across the likes of Mike Chapman, Tir na nOg and Bridget St John in small rooms along with maybe only 50 or 60 others some nights.
OK I saw a band play a crumhorn once.
I was a few years underage for the pub backrooms many of these clubs were held in and 2 pints would set me up for the night but at other venues coffee was the strongest option and on one such night I sat and watched Bridget truly weave magic around a small Sunday evening audience as the gas burners fought to keep the winter chill away.
I'd known of Bridget through her association with Kevin Ayers but was in no way prepared for that evenings performance.
Years later with the printed Big Untidy I had a correspondence with the inspirational John Tobler who had put together a Bridget St John compilation CD that included a version of Catch A Falling Star which somehow seems to sum up the beauty the fragility the magnificence and the subtelty of Bridget St John. This is her playing the song live in New York where she lives teaches guitar and still makes music.
Long may she continue.

No One Should Drink Alone

Best not to watch this at work or with your mum;
there is a naked lady in it......

Untidy Buddies Grae J Wall and Clive Product make their video debut over at youtube where Martin Rudi has posted a visual treat to accompany ‘No One Should Drink Alone’, a track from Grae and Clive’s album of the same name [available through trashville if you don’t already have one].
Seems Martin saw the duo at Kantana, “an artist run sort of place” in Nuremburg and the next thing anyone knew – there it was!
Clive recalls the gig:
“It was all a bit of a mad rush. We sound checked and had a beer, and then we were driven to the local radio station where we were interviewed. Hilarious really cos the gig was due to start and we were still at the radio station .. was hard to take the situation seriously. A case of ‘And here they are .. and there they go!!’
I’m sure it came across very untidy for anyone listening.
Kev took some photos.
The gig went pretty well, and, afterwards, we did – like nearly always – an unplugged session in a back room. Brilliant fun! Everyone completely drunk or stoned or both. Grae and I played just about every cover version we could think of .. madness, really!!”
As Grae aptly puts it “I think the lo-fi of the vid really suits the song!”

The Scaffold;

A little-seen advert made by the band for an alcoholic beverage company. Don't forget to check the Scaffold article out.

Happy Slip

Through Martin, and in the way of such things, Big Untidy has found Happy Slip – and so should you. Chances are you’re here with us at Big Untidy cos unlike seemingly half the world you just don’t ‘get’ James Blunt – Happy Slip shows you how to enjoy that bloody song of his with her own interpretation, Mac Beautiful.
