The man behind the yellow door

The man behind the yellow door
Doesn’t live there anymore
Though no one saw him leaving
But he’s gone, we’re almost sure

He never intimated
And he never said goodbye.
His house is all locked up
Though the keys are still inside.
His wardrobe is full of clothes
And the post piles high on the mat
Still someone waters the garden
And someone feeds the cat

But the man behind the yellow door
Hasn’t been seen for weeks
1 day there the next day gone
And no one ever speaks
About the man behind the yellow door.
Maybe someone heard a car door clunk
In the middle of the night
Maybe someone heard a scuffle
But it wasn’t loud enough to be a fight.
Perhaps he’s gone on holiday
For a very long time
Maybe he’s visiting family
And left no forwarding contact behind?

There’s a party in the pub tonight
I saw the drum kit taken in
There’s fireworks and a lighting rig
And we’re all invited to sing
The entire village will be there
Could be 100s maybe more
There’ll only be 1 man missing
The man behind the yellow door.
