Starting a Band
Today I’m going to start a band.
I still have youth to spill
And thoughts to scatter like diamonds.
My guitar still feels smooth
Beneath my steel tipped fingers.
A portal to the past,
Still me, yet some one better.
I’ll show the world my mettle
And teach the young ones how it’s done.
We’ll rouse a sleeping army from their sofas!
And I’ll feel the lights on the back of my neck
Like a blue sun.
Dry ice like candy-floss to breathe.
I’ll lead the gang to a peaceful war.
Of puerile jokes,
Waiting around in vans and empty bars.
Lifting.
Carrying.
Flat beer.
Hyping.
Marker pens and an A4 pad.
Crackly leads and too much reverb.
Then suddenly…..we’re kings together!
Today I’m going to start a band.
But first I’ll put the boys to bed.
Then it’s time to eat and watch that programme on TV.
Tomorrow I’m going to start a band.
