The Silence in Between

Some people have to cluck and click
And fill each waking moment
With incessant noise and chatter
Or endless, pointless twittering
That hides the clock still ticking,
Or the rivers endless flowing,
But I prefer the silence in between.

The silence broken only by a bird song
Or a heart beat,
A childsplay,
Or the wind scratching at the leaves.

When all is said and done
Say nothing that’s OK;
Enjoy the moment present,
And reflect on being here today.

You can talk about it later
With whoever wants to listen.
And reminisce
That times like this
Are what make life worth the living.

In the hours before dawn
When sleep doesn’t want to know you
And daylight is still a toss and turn away.
You can bask in the warming afterglow,
Of another time,
Another day.

The silence in between can say even more than words
So don’t let it fly away,
Enjoy the moment present
And reflect on being here today.
