If You're Ever Down in Brighton

Talking of raising 2 fingers in a Situationist manner, plans are afoot to stage regular irregular detournements in a pub in Hove starting in September, where it is intended to subvert the empty mannerisms of the festival on the first friday of every month.
Provocatively, this venture will be known as the Hove Folk Club, "partly because calling anything an Acoustic Club or a Roots Club sounds even worse, & partly because we wish to reclaim the concept of folk music from the Professional Museum Curators who currently claim to define it in their Perpetual Tours of Art Centres, Festivals & interviews in the Guardian."
Those of you who are alert to these things will perhaps detect the hand of our friend Robb Johnson in all of this? Joining Robb in this venture is author & "stark raving genius" Robert Rankin.
Kicking the season off will be Maggie Holland on 5/9, then we have Steve Hunt (3/10), Leon Rosselson (&/11) & Pressgang's Damian Clarke(5/12) - with more to come in the New Year.
Putting music, words & performance into a proper perspective will take place at The Eclipse, Montgomery St, Hove, which is a very nice pub selling Harveys beer, close to Hove hauptbahnhof. Entrance will be a minimum of £5 to provide artists with the pittance necessary to buy whatever cheap wine they rely on to fuel their art etc.
Maybe see you there. Website details etc will appear as soon as we get it constructed...

Beggin'

From the "No news is, er, no news!?" department our good buddies at www.olliehalsall.co.uk write to tell us that Cherry Red/RPM have released a Timebox complilation Beggin - The Sound Of London's Mod/Club Scene.

Before we get too excited, this is simply a duplicate but, nonetheless, welcome re-vamp of the now deleted Deram Anthology minus one track [Misty].

Olliezine was only made aware of this album by Timebox keyboard wizard Professor Chris Holmes himself, who wins the "Any news is better than nothingaward."

Anniversary

A belated note but we couldn't let it pass that July 15 was the 30th (thirtieth) anniversery of I-Jog & The Tracksuits recording Red Box at Unit One.

There'll be fun and frolics from hometown heroes Bidgie Reef and the much travelled Harry Pane, who came busiking with us at Brackley Music Festival, will complete the bill. What a wonderful evening and we hope to see you there.
