TEENAGE TOP 30
In December 1976, Island Records released Teenage Depression, the debut LP from Eddie And The Hotrods. Just months before, their Live At The Marquee EP was one of the hottest discs around. I still remember the thrill of hearing tracks like Get Out Of Denver and 96 Tears blasting out from that old stereo in my bedroom. The Hotrods were the missing link between Dr Feelgood (too pub rocky for some - ha! I loved them) and the Sex Pistols. Teenage Depression may not have stood the test of time in quite the same way as, say, the first Clash LP, or Damned Damned Damned, but it meant something back then, in the winter of '76. For many, the band were more or less old-hat by the time the Pistols had appeared on the Today show. How could I forget? December the 1st, 1976, my 13th birthday. Teenage depression? No way! Still a great record as far as I'm concerned. And in celebration of it's 30th anniversary, a "teenage" top 30.
